So sánh nhất (So sánh cực cấp) trong tiếng Anh
A. Ví dụ so sánh nhất trong tiếng Anh
Bạn theo dõi ví dụ:
- What is the longest river in the world?
(Dòng sông nào dài nhất thế giới?)
- What was the most enjoyable holiday you've ever had?
(Kỳ nghỉ nào của bạn thú vị nhất?) longest và most enjoyable là dạng so sánh nhất. (Superlative forms)
B. Cách hình thành so sánh nhất trong tiếng Anh
Ta dùng -est hoặc most... để tạo nên dạng so sánh nhất. Nói chung, ta dùng -est cho những tính từ ngắn và most... với những tính từ dài. (Sử dụng quy tắc tương tự như khi tạo dạng thức so sánh hơn)
Ví dụ:
từ ngắn | từ dài
long → longest | most expensive
hot → hottest | most famous
easy → easiest | most boring
hard → hardest | most difficult
Những tính từ sau là bất quy tắc:
good → best
bad → worst
far → furthest
C. Cách sử dụng the trong so sánh nhất
Ta thường dùng the trước dạng so sánh nhất (the longest / the most famous ...):
- Yesterday was the hottest day of year.
(Hôm qua là ngày nóng nhất trong năm.)
- That film was really boring. It was the most boring film I've ever seen.
(Bộ phim thật là dở. Đó là bộ phim dở nhất tôi từng xem.)
- She is a really nice person — one of the nicest people I know.
(Cô ấy thật là người tử tế — một trong những người tử tế nhất tôi từng biết.)
- Why does he always come to see me at the worst possible moment?
(Sao anh ta luôn đến thăm tôi vào những lúc tồi tệ nhất vậy?)
So sánh nhất vs so sánh hơn:

- This hotel is the cheapest in town. (so sánh nhất — superlative)
(Đây là khách sạn bình dân nhất trong thị trấn.)
- This hotel is cheaper than all the others in town. (so sánh hơn — comparative)
(Khách sạn này rẻ hơn tất cả các khách sạn khác trong thị trấn.)

- He's the most patient person I've ever met.
(Anh ta là người kiên nhẫn nhất mà tôi từng gặp.)
- He's much more patient than I am.
(Anh ta kiên nhẫn hơn tôi.)
D. Cách sử dụng oldest và eldest trong tiếng Anh
• So sánh nhất của old là oldest:
- That church is the oldest building in the town. (không nói 'the eldest')
(Nhà thờ đó là tòa nhà lâu đời nhất trong thị trấn.)
• Ta dùng eldest (hoặc oldest) khi nói tới những thành viên trong gia đình:
- My eldest son is 13 years old. (hoặc My oldest son...)
(Con trai đầu của tôi năm nay 13 tuổi.)
- Are you the eldest in your family? (hoặc ...the oldest...)
(Anh là người con lớn nhất trong gia đình phải không?)
E. So sánh nhất và giới từ in
Sau dạng so sánh nhất, ta sử dụng giới từ in với những từ chỉ nơi chốn (thành phố, nhà cửa v.v...):
- What is the longest river in the world? (không nói 'of the world')
(Con sông nào dài nhất thế giới?)
- We had a lovely room. It was one of the nicest in the hotel. (không nói 'of the hotel')
(Chúng tôi đã có một phòng rất tuyệt. Đó là một trong những phòng tốt nhất khách sạn.)
Ta còn dùng giới từ in đối với một tổ chức hay một nhóm người (a class/team/company ...):
- Who is the best student in the class? (không nói 'of the class')
(Ai là học sinh giỏi nhất lớp?)
Ta thường dùng giới từ of đối với một khoảng thời gian nào đó:
- What was the happiest day of your life?
(Ngày nào là ngày hạnh phúc nhất trong đời anh?)
- Yesterday was the hottest day of the year.
(Ngày hôm qua là ngày nóng nhất trong năm.)
F. So sánh nhất và hiện tại hoàn thành
Ta thường dùng thì hiện tại hoàn thành (present perfect — I have done) sau dạng so sánh nhất — superlative
- What's the best film you've ever seen?
(Phim nào là phim hay nhất bạn từng xem?)
- That was the most delicious meal I've had for a long time.
(Đó là bữa ăn ngon nhất mà lâu lắm rồi tôi mới dược ăn.)
G. Cấu trúc most + tính từ
Đôi khi chúng ta cũng sử dụng cấu trúc most + tính từ với nghĩa 'very':
- The book you lent me was most interesting. (= very interesting)
(Cuốn sách bạn cho tôi mượn rất hay.)
- Thank you for the money. It was most generous of you. (= very generous)
(Cám ơn anh về số tiền đó. Anh thật là rộng rãi.)
