I. OBJECTIVES
By the end of this lesson, pupils will be able to:
1. Knowledge and skills
- say a chant with the sound of the letter combination er (/ə(r)/), the words sister and brother and the sentence structure “He’s/She’s _____ (age).”
- recognise target words and the sentence structure while listening.
- complete and say the words grandmother, brother and sister.

1. WARM-UP & REVIEW (5 minutes)
a. Objectives:
- To review the words about family members they have learnt.
b. Content:
- Game: “What’s missing?”
c. Expected outcomes:
- Pupils can correctly remember and correctly say the words about family members they have learnt.

- Prepare the pictures and the words. Have pupils say the words aloud. - Explain how to play the game. - Model the game. The teacher will disappear one of five pictures. Then have one pupil remember and say the picture’s name of family members. - Continue the game until all the vocabulary set are said. - If pupils say the correct words, they will get gifts from the teacher. - Praise pupils if they play the game well. - Lead in the new lesson. |

Step 1: Draw pupils’ attention to the picture and have them point to the brother(s) (say “Look at the picture. Point to the brother(s).”). Step 2: Repeat Step 1 for sister.
Step 3: Play the recording of the chant to familiarise pupils with the words and rhythm (say “Listen.”). Step 4: Have pupils point to the first line of the chant (say “Point to line one.”). Play the recording of the first line and encourage pupils to chant (say “Listen and chant.”). Step 5: Repeat Step 4 for the other lines of the chant. Step 6: Play the recording in full and encourage pupils to chant (say “Listen and chant.”). Pupils can clap along or do other actions to help them keep the rhythm. Step 7: Divide the class into two teams. Teams take it in turns to chant a line. The whole class can clap along or do other actions. |

- Pupils can recognise the words brother/seventeen and sister/twenty and the sentence structure “My brother/sister is ____ (age).” while listening

Step 1: Have pupils look at the pictures and say the words (say “Point and say.”). When pupils answer correctly, confirm by saying “sixteen/ seventeen/ nineteen/ twenty”. Step 2: Play the recording and allow pupils time to complete the activity (say “Listen and circle.”). Play the recording again, if necessary (say “Listen again.”). Step 3: Check the answers by asking “a or b?”. When pupils answer correctly, confirm by saying “1b. My brother is seventeen.”/ “2b. My sister is twenty.” and encourage them to repeat. |

Step 1: Write the letter combination er (lower case) on the board and say “er” (/iː/ /ɑː/). Step 2: Write the letter combination er (lower case) on the board again, but this time more slowly. Invite a few pupils to come to the front of the class and write the letter combination er (lowercase) on the board. Step 3: Draw pupils’ attention to the pictures and labels (say “Look and write.”). Allow pupils time to complete the activity. Go around the class to offer support and feedback. Step 4: Have pupils say the words (say “Say the words.”). |
- Pupils follow the teacher demonstrating the activity.
- Pupils come to the front of the class and write the letter combination er (lower case) on the board.
- Pupils look at the pictures and labels and complete the activity.

5. FUN CORNER AND WRAP-UP (5 minutes)
* Option 1/ Game: “Fast reveal” (PPT)
- Prepare the pictures about the family members' numbers.
- Put a picture on the board and cover it with a piece of paper.
- Move the paper very fast to reveal the picture.
- Ask “Who’s this?” or “What number is it?”. Have pupils raise their hand and say the picture’s name, e.g. sister. Have pupils repeat the word.
- Continue the game until all of the words from the vocabulary set are said.
- Praise pupils if they play the game well.
* Option 2/ Game: “Bingo”
- Prepare all the pictures (sister, grandfather, brother, mother, sixteen, seventeen, eighteen, nineteen, twenty)
- Have pupils choose nine words on the board and write them down on their piece of paper.
- One pupil reads the words aloud at random.
- When one pupil has crossed out three words (up, down, cross or diagonal), then shouts “Bingo”.
