I. OBJECTIVES
By the end of this lesson, pupils will be able to:
1. Knowledge and skills
- use the sentence structures “How old is your _____?” and “He’s/She’s _____ (age).” to ask and answer questions about someone’s age.
- sing a song with the sentence structures “How old is _____?” and “He’s _____ (age).”

1. WARM-UP & REVIEW (5 minutes)
a. Objectives:
- To review the words of the numbers and the family members.
- Game: “This or That”

- Pupils can remember and say the words of the numbers and the family members.

Step 1: Draw pupils’ attention to the picture (say “Look at the picture.”). Step 2: Have pupils point to the sentences (say “Point to the sentences.”). Play the recording and encourage pupils to repeat (say “Listen and repeat.”). Do this several times, with pupils repeating both individually and in chorus. Correct their pronunciation if necessary, and praise them when it is good. |

Step 1: Write How old is _____? and He’s _____. on the board. Step 2: Write the number 19 on the board. Stick a picture of a 19-year-old man on the board. Say “How old is _____?” and encourage pupils to complete the sentence with your brother. Then point to He’s _____. and encourage pupils to answer using the full sentence structure. When they answer correctly, confirm by writing nineteen in the gap Step 3: Repeat Steps 1 and 2 for How old is _____? She’s _____. Step 4: Draw pupils’ attention to Picture a (say “Look at Picture a.”). Say “How old is _____?” and encourage them to complete the question and answer “He’s sixteen.” both individually and in chorus. Correct their pronunciation if necessary, and praise them when it is good. Step 5: Repeat Step 4 for Pictures b, c and d. Step 6: Put pupils into pairs to practise asking and answering questions about someone’s age. Go around the class to offer help or correct pupils’ pronunciation, if necessary. |

- Pupils can sing a song with the sentence structures “How old is _____?” and “He’s _____ (age).”

Play the recording line by line and encourage pupils to sing along. Step 5: Have pupils work in groups to make up actions for the song. Invite a few groups to perform the song for the class. |

5. FUN CORNER AND WRAP-UP (5 minutes)
* Option 1/ Game: “Find the odd one out” (PPT)
- Tell pupils they are going to choose one word which is different from the three words.
- Show the four words on the board.
- Call one pupil to give the answer.
- If he/ she gives the correct answer, he/ she will get stars from the teacher.
- Continue playing the game until all the words are said.
- Praise pupils if they play the game well.
* Option 2/ Ask and answer
- Prepare some pictures (brother, grandmother, sister, sixteen, seventeen, eighteen, nineteen)
- Divide the class into pairs.
- Have the pupils practice saying the sentences.
e.g. Pupil A: How old is your brother?
Pupil B: He’s nineteen.
- Have some pairs demonstrate the activity in front of the class.
