WARM-UP/REVIEW (5 minutes)

Aim: To motivate students and help students to revise school thing vocabulary.

*Game: “Word chain”

Flashcards (table, computer, chair, board)

- Place the flashcards from the last lesson on the board in the sequence board, computer, table, pencil case.

- Ask the students in chorus to repeat the sequence (pay attention to pronunciation here).

- When students are chanting nicely, remove the flashcards one at a time until they are chanting from memory.

- Point to individual students to repeat the chant in order

- Praise students if they have done well.

- Look at the flashcards.

- Repeat the sequence in chorus.

PRESENTATION (10 minutes)

Aim: To help students listenand say sentences with These are, and Those are.

*Lead-in: Use pictures (part 3) on page 89

- Ask students what happened in the story. Prompt if necessary with questions.

- Cover the story and ask students which school things appeared in the story.

*Listen to the story again. (Track 143)

- Ask students to turn to the story in their books. Check how many words they remembered.

- Play the recording, pausing for students to repeat.

- Divide the class into groups to play the roles in the story.

- Ask students to look at the different actions that the characters do in the story. Elicit a set of actions to use when acting out the story.

- Ask students to practice acting the story. Ask pairs to come to the front to act for the class.

- Praise students. Give comments.

PRACTICE (8 minutes)

Aim: To help students listenand say sentences with These are, and Those areand improve students’ listening skills.

*Listen and say. (Track 144)

- Ask students to look at the pictures. Ask What can you see?

- Play the recording. Pause after each line. Have students repeat.

- Reinforce the meaning of these and those using objects in the classroom, e.g. chairs, tables, etc. Emphasize the distance necessary to show these/those.

- Call some students to say the sentences.

- Check students’ pronunciation.
