- Định nghĩa: Giới từ là từ hoặc nhóm từ thường được dùng trước danh từ hoặc đại từ để chỉ sự liên hệ giữa danh từ hoặc đại từ này với các thành phần khác trong câu.

- Chức năng: Giới từ có hai chức năng quan trọng là chức năng xác định và chức năng bổ trợ.

1. Giới từ chỉ thời gian

For (trong khoảng thời gian)	Khoảng thời gian.	- For 3 years: trong 3 năm - For a long time = for ages: trong một thời gian dài.
Since (từ khi)	Mốc thời gian	- since 2008: từ năm 2008 - since yesterday: từ ngày hôm qua.
Till/ until (cho đến khi)	Mốc thời gian	- till/ until 2 o’clock: cho đến 2 giờ - until tomorrow: cho đến ngày mai.
Between (giữa)	Giữa hai khoảng thời gian	- between 2pm and 5 pm: từ 2 giờ đến 5 giờ - between September to October: từ tháng 9 đến tháng 10.
Up to/ to (cho đến)	Mốc/ khoảng thời gian	- up to now: cho đến bây giờ - up to 3 hours per day: cho đến 3 giờ một ngày.
From …. To/ till/ until… (từ… đến...)	Mốc thời gian	- form Monday to Sunday: từ thứ 2 đến chủ nhật - from 8am to 11am: từ 8 giờ sáng đến 11 giờ.
Within (trong vòng)	Khoảng thời gian	- within 2 minutes: trong vòng 2 phút - within 2 months: trong vòng 2 tháng.
Ago (cách đây)	Khoảng thời gian	- 5 years ago: cách đây 5 năm.

15. Among (ở giữa nhiều vật)	- Among these cars, I love the red one. (Trong số những chiếc xe này, tôi thích cái màu đỏ.)
16. Against (tựa vào)	- I am against the wall. (Tôi đứng tựa vào tường.)
17. Across (bên kia)	- The supermarket is across the street. (Siêu thị ở bên kia đường.)
18. Around (xung quanh)	- The child is running around the garden. (Đứa bé đang chạy quanh vườn.)
19. down (xuống)	- The stone is falling down. (Tảng đá đang lăn xuống.)
20. up (lên trên)	- I am going up the stairs. (Tôi đang đi lên những bậc thang.)

3. Giới từ chỉ sự di chuyển

- To: đến, tới (một nơi nào đó)

Ví dụ: I go to school everyday. (Tôi tới trường mỗi ngày)

- From: từ (một nơi nào đó)

Ví dụ: Keiki comes from Japan. (Keiko đến từ Nhật Bản).

- Away from: chỉ sự di chuyển hướng ra xa

Ví dụ: When you hear the alarm, run away from the building. (Khi bạn nghe thấy chuông báo động, hãy di chuyển ra xa tòa nhà).

- Across: qua, ngang qua

Ví dụ: When I went across restaurant, I saw my old boyfriend. (Khi tôi đi ngang qua nhà hàng, tôi đã nhìn thấy bạn trai cũ của tôi).

- Along: dọc theo

Ví dụ: He go along the bridge. (Anh ấy đi dọc theo cây cầu).

- Around: quanh quẩn đâu đó
