A. DESIRED OBJECTIVES

By the end of the lesson, students will be able to:

WARM-UP/REVIEW (5 minutes)

Aim: To motivate students and help students sing the song to review action words.

*Let’s sing: Sing the song “She can run” (Track 110)

- Set up the activity. Tell students they are going to sing She can runfrom Lesson 3 to energize the class.

- Play the recording for students to listen.

- Play the recording again for students to sing in chorus.

- Let students to sing the song without music. Have students clap their hands as singing the song.

- Give comments. Praise students.

- Listen to the teacher’s instructions.

PRESENTATION (10 minutes)

Aim: To help students look at the picture and answer the question.

*Lead-in: Use the picture on page 70

- Ask students to look at the picture on page 70 to present the word beach.

- Ask students if they have been to the beach. Elicit what they saw there. Provide English words as necessary.

- Remind students of the word vacation from Vinh’s family vacation in Unit 3. Ask Where do you go for your vacation?

- Ask students to look at the postcard. Elicit how they know it’s a postcard. Point to the stamp and address to help them.

- Ask students to tell who wrote the postcard (Nam) and who the postcard is to (Nam’s grandma, Mrs. Lan). Direct their attention to the opening and closing to help them.

- Play the recording for students to listen and follow along.

- Write the following comprehension questions on the board. Where are Nam and his family? Can Hoa play soccer?

- Play the recording again for students to listen and think about the answers. Discuss the answers verbally to check comprehension.

- Call on some students to read the postcard.

- Check students’ pronunciation. Give feedback.
