I. OBJECTIVES

By the end of this lesson, pupils will be able to:

1. Knowledge and skills

- Correctly identify and pronounce target words and sentence structures and read and understand a short story.

- Correctly identify target words from the story.

2. Competences

- Communication and collaboration: work in pairs or groups to complete the learning tasks.

- Self-control and independent learning: perform reading task.

3. Attributes

- Study hard to review the vocabulary and sentence patterns they have learnt.

- Make an effort to study hard in class.

III. PROCEDURES

1. WARM-UP & REVIEW (5 minutes)

a. Objectives

- To review the words with the letters sh and t (shirts, shoes, shorts, tent, blanket, teapot).

b. Content

- Game: “Secret boxes”

c. Expected outcomes

- Pupils can remember and say the words with the letters sh and t (shirts, shoes, shorts, tent, blanket, teapot) correctly.

d. Organisation:

Game: “Secret boxes”

- Ask pupils if they remember the previous units.

- Write the words on the board.

 

- Divide the class into two groups.

- Have a pupil from each group take turns choosing a box, then look at the picture given and choose the correct answers A, B or C.

- If they choose the correct answers, they will get points from the boxes.

- Check the answer as a class.

 

- Continue the game until all the boxes are opened.

- The group with more points wins the game. Praise the winner.

- Say the words they have learnt.

- Look at the words on the board.

- Work in two groups.

- Take turns choosing a box, then look at the picture given and choose the correct answers A, B or C.

 

 

 

 

 

- Check the answer as a class.

- Continue playing the game.

2. ACTIVITY 1: PRACTICE (10 minutes)

a. Objectives

- To correctly identify and pronounce target words and sentence structures and read and understand a short story.

b. Content

- Activity 1. Listen and read.

c. Expected outcomes

- Pupils can correctly identify and pronounce target words and sentence structures and read and understand a short story.

Activity 1. Listen and read. (Track 91)

Step 1: Draw pupils’ attention to the pictures (say “Look at the pictures.”). Ask questions to help them identify the context.

Step 2: Have pupils point to Picture 1 (say “Point to Picture 1.”). Play the recording for Picture 1 and encourage pupils to repeat (say “Listen and repeat.”).

 Step 3: Repeat Step 2 for Pictures 2, 3 and 4.

Step 4: Have pupils work in pairs to act out the story. Go around the class to offer help and correct pupils’ pronunciation, if necessary.

Step 5: Invite a few pairs to act out the story for the class.

Extra activity: For more advanced classes, have pupils close their books and try to

remember what the characters are doing in each picture.

- Pupils look at the pictures and identify the context.

 

 

- Pupils point to Picture 1. Pupils listen to the recording for Picture 1 and repeat.

 

 

- Pupils follow the teacher’s instructions.

- Pupils work in pairs to act out the story.

 

 

 

- Pupils act out the story for the class.

- Pupils close their books and try to remember what the characters are doing in each picture.

There are four pictures in the story.

Picture 1 shows Sue and Kate in a clothes shop. They are talking to the shop assistant. Kate is saying “I want some shirts. Where are they?”. The shop assistant is saying “Over there.”

Picture 2 shows Sue and Kate in a clothes shop. Sue is saying “How old is your brother?” Kate is saying “He’s fifteen.”

Picture 3 shows Phil, Sue and Kate buying some juice and yogurt. Phil is saying “What do you want, Sue and Kate?” Kate is saying “I want some juice.” Sue is saying “I want some yogurt.”

Picture 4 shows Phil, Sue and Kate walking down the street. Kate is saying “Shirts are nice. But yogurt and juice are yummy!”

3. ACTIVITY 2: PRACTICE (10 minutes)

a. Objectives

- To correctly identify target words from the story.

b. Content

- Activity 2. Look again and circle.

- Pupils can correctly identify target words from the story.

Activity 2. Look again and circle.

Step 1: Have pupils point to and say the number sixteen (say “Point to the number sixteen. Say sixteen.”).

Step 2: Have pupils look again at the story and try to find the number sixteen in one of the pictures (say “Look again. Is the number sixteen in the story?”). If there is the number sixteen, pupils should circle the word/picture; if not, then they do not need to circle the word/picture.

Step 3: Repeat Steps 1 and 2 for blanket, brother, shorts, fifteen, sister, teapot and shirts.

- Pupils point to and say the number sixteen.

 

 

- Pupils look again at the story and try to find the number sixteen in one of the pictures.

 

 

 

 

 

- Pupils follow the teacher’s instructions.

4. FUN CORNER AND WRAP-UP (10 minutes)

* Option 1/ Game: “Word Game”

- Pupils play the game individually.

- Prepare some words with missing letters.

e.g. 1. bl__n__et, 2. t__nt, 3. te__po__, 4. s__ir__s, 5. __ __orts, 6. __h__es

- Have a pupil look at the picture and the letters. Then complete the word with a letter and say the word aloud.

- Praise the ones who finish the task well.

* Option 2/ Game: “Slow Motion”

- Use flashcards (tent, teapot, blanket, shirts, shoes, shorts).

- Model the activity first.

- Hold the flashcard “shoes” facing with the body so no one can see it.

- Very slowly show the flashcard to the class.

- Have the pupil guess the word on the flashcard.

- Who says “shoes” first will get a sticker as a gift.

- Ask the class to repeat “shoes” in chorus.

- Continue the game with others.
