Looking from an overall perspective, it is readily apparent that boys spend significantly more time playing games than girls, while the opposite is true for chatting online though the gap is smaller. Furthermore, teenage boys are more likely to play games instead of chatting and vice versa for girls.
Looking first of all at the data for chatting on the internet, about 25% of boys spend less than an hour, slightly higher than girls at around 24%. In contrast, the most significant percentage for girls belongs to the 1 to 3 hours category (35%), considerably higher than their male counterparts (25%). Girls were twofold as likely as boys to spend over four hours chatting online (8% and 4%, respectively).
Concerning playing console games, boys spending from 1 to 3 hours registered the largest proportion (43%), followed by less than an hour (30%) and over 4 hours (10%). Girls witnessed lower figures in nearly all categories, with those spending less than an hour on games the only exception (37%), 1 to 3 hours (13%) and a negligible percentage for those exceeding four hours (1%). The total data for both activities showed only minor overall disparities, with chatting online constituting slightly over 60% and playing games nearly 70%.

Overall, boys and girls were spending more time playing games on consoles rather than chatting, around 68% against 62%. Specifically, around 33% more boys were playing games as compared to girls.
Boys playing games for 1-3 hours were 35%, whereas girls in this time frame constituted of 13%. Around 2% of girls were recorded playing for more than 4 hours, as opposed to 10% of the boys.
