I. WARM-UP. T- Ss - T / Ss - Ss / (5’)

- Show some pictures about actions and their results for students to match.

- Give comments.

 

- Do the activity.

- Follow teacher’s instructions.

Suggested answer:

E.g.: Pictures of eating too much fast food (action) and becoming overweight (result).

II. PRESENTATION. T - Ss - T / Ss - Ss / Indiv. (10’)

Lead – in: (2’)

- Ask what students can remember about the six people in the survival show.

- Elicit a few ideas, then ask: Which person is a vegetarian? (Sophie) What does she have to do if she wants to win? (change her eating habits).

- Ask students to find the sentence in the text on page 70 which say this (If she changes her eating habits, she’ll go a long way).

- Point out the two clauses in the sentence, and point out that the first clause is an action, and the second clause is a result.

- Elicit or explain that this is a first conditional sentence, and we use the first conditional to talk about actions and results in the future.

- Introduce the new lesson.

Activity 1: (4’) Match 1-5 with a-e to make sentences. Then match the sentences with the people in the text on page 70.

- Ask students to match the sentence halves and match the sentences with the people in the text.

- Check answers with the class and check that students understand the sentences.

- Elicit what the action and the result are in each sentence.

Activity 2: (4’) Complete the Rules with action or result.

- Ask students to work in pairs to look at the examples and complete the Rules.

- Read through the Rules with the class and elicit the answers.

- Check answers with the class.

- Reinforce the point that we use the present simple in the if clause, not will.

 

 

 

 

- Answer the questions.

- Look at the board and listen to the teacher.
