TASK 1. Read the passage. Circle the best answer A, B or C to each of the questions.
When it comes to preparations for studying abroad, the very first challenge for students is how to live independently. Stepping out of their comfort zone to live and study in a faraway country often ingrains an obscure fear of loneliness and helplessness. Therefore, if you have a plan to earn a degree in a foreign country, you need to equip yourselves with essential skills to start a truly independent life as soon as possible. First and foremost, you do not need to be an excellent cook but should know basic cooking skills to feed yourselves. Suppose that you experienced a pandemic period, you would have to cook at home due to social distancing and most restaurant closures. Second, clean-up and household skills are of equal importance. To lower accommodation costs, many students often choose to share apartments with other mates. Definitely, no one wants to stay with those who are untidy and do not know how to do simple household tasks, so make sure that you can do daily housework well enough. Third, money management is a challenging task for most overseas students. Some students are often flat broke at the end of the month because they cannot handle their budget. It’s advisable to be a smart shopper by making a suitable shopping list and keeping an accurate record of your daily expenses to avoid pointless debt. In short, the pieces of advice will hopefully make your independent life easier when you go to university in another country.

Red Claw Crawfish
Red claw crawfish (also known as crayfish), an invasive species but a favored dish in some provinces in Vietnam, is a threat to the country's agriculture and fisheries. Native to northern Australia, crawfish has entered Vietnam mainly frozen from the US or fresh (imported illegally from China). This kind of crawfish was first imported for food a few years ago and quickly became popular. However, lots of scientists believe that the species could become a disaster for both agriculture and the ecosystem. The crawfish withstand environmental changes, so they are strong and reproduce quickly. They feed on almost all kinds of aquatic species and compete with local shrimp species for food. If they live with other native species in the same environment, it is possible that some local fish or shrimp species could disappear. Moreover, with their strong claws, they easily cut rice paddy stalks, eat young buds as well as dig in and destroy dykes. They could also spread diseases and viruses that could damage the crops.
Measures have been taken to protect the biodiversity and avoid bad impacts of crawfish on agricultural production. In 2013, Vietnam put crawfish on the list of foreign species that are banned from being imported. Then in 2018, all activities related to raising and distributing the creature are prohibited. People have to pay a fine of 100 million VND to 1 billion VND or even go to prison up to five years for importing and distributing this invasive species. However, controlling the trade in crawfish has been a difficult task, because it is usually smuggled into Vietnam in small quantities via minor border gates, such as in Lang Son or Lao Cai Province and is sold mainly by merchants via social networks.

Read the following passage and mark the letter A, B, C, or D on your answer sheet to indicate the correct answer to each of the questions.
The art form of the opera was first developed in the Italian city of Florence during the 1590s. At the time a group of composers and artists known as the Camerata were interested in injecting storytelling into music. They were inspired by the belief that the great tragic plays of ancient Greece had been sung rather than simply acted. Another motivation may have been the desire of the composers to find an alternative to the production of music for the Church, which they found rigid, conventional, and oppressive. This is supported by the selection of material for the opera. Early composers took their material from the mythologies of ancient Rome and Greece, which was full of plot twists, betrayals, and love affairs. From the very beginning, the sobriety of the Church had little place in opera.
Opera was an almost immediate success in Italy. Composers quickly embraced the new art form for the opportunities and creative freedom it offered. Wealthy nobles supported the opera because its elaborate and expensive performances allowed them to display their wealth as well as their sophistication. The early years of opera were marked primarily by experimentation. Since it was a new art form, everything was new and untested. Early composers experimented with the structure, subject material, and organization of the opera. They tried different placements for the orchestra, as well as different sizes. By the early 1600s, however, the format of the opera was approaching what we know today.
