I. OBJECTIVES

By the end of this lesson, pupils will be able to:

1. Knowledge and skills

- understand and correctly repeat the sentences in two communicative contexts focusing on asking and answering the questions about means of transport to get to a place.

- correctly say the phrases by bus, by bicycle, by taxi and on foot and use the sentence patterns How can I get to _____? - You can get there ____. to ask and answer questions about means of transport to get to a place.

- correctly use the sentence patterns Where do you want to visit? – I want to visit ____. and

How can I get to ____? and You can get there ____. to ask and answer questions about means of transport to get to a place in a freer context.

2. Competences

- Critical thinking and creativity: learn how to ask and answer questions about means of transport to get to a place correctly and fluently.

- Communication and collaboration: work in pairs and groups to complete the learning tasks.

- Self-control & independent learning: perform pronunciation and speaking tasks.

3. Attributes

- Show their pride in famous places of Viet Nam by using appropriate gestures and intonation when asking and answering questions about places someone wants to visit.

1. WARM-UP & REVIEW (5 minutes)

a. Objectives

- To revise the vocabulary about some famous places.

- Game: Slow motion

- Pupils can say the vocabulary about some famous places correctly.

Game: Slow motion (ppt)

- Tell pupils that they are going to look at a part of the picture and say the name of the place.

- Put a flash card on the board and cover it with a piece of paper.

- Very slowly move the paper to reveal the picture, little by little.

- Ask Which place is it? The first pupil to guess correctly comes to the front to choose the next card.

- Continue the game until practicing all of the words from the vocabulary set.

- Praise pupils if they play the game well.

- Have the class read all the names of places.

- Pupils listen to the teacher’s explanation.

- Pupils follow the teacher demonstrating the game.

- Pupils answer the name of the place.

- Pupils continue playing the game.

- Read all the names of places.

2. ACTIVITY 1: EXPLORATION (5 minutes)

a. Objectives

- To understand and correctly repeat the sentences in two communicative contexts focusing on asking and answering the questions about means of transport to get to a place.

c. Expected outcomes

- Pupils can understand and correctly repeat the sentences in two communicative contexts focusing on asking and answering the questions about means of transport to get to a place.

Activity 1. Look, listen and repeat. (Track 76)

Step 1: Ask pupils to look at Pictures a and b, and identify the characters in the pictures. Have them say what they can see in the pictures.

Step 2: Ask pupils to look at Picture a. Play the recording of the exchange for them to listen.

Step 3: Play the recording again, sentence by sentence, for pupils to listen and repeat individually and in chorus. Correct their pronunciation where necessary. Repeat the same procedure with Picture b.

Step 4: Invite a few pairs to the front of the class to listen to and repeat the sentences in the recording. Give corrections and feedback where necessary.

Step 5: Direct pupils’ attention to the question How can I get to Hoan Kiem Lake? and the answer You can get there by bus. Tell pupils that they are the question and answer about means of transport to get to a place.

- Pupils look at Pictures a and b and identify the characters in the pictures. Pupils say what they can see in the pictures.

- Pupils look at Picture a. Pupils listen to the recording of the exchange.

- Pupils listen to the recording again, sentence by sentence, and repeat individually and in chorus. Pupils follow the teacher’s instructions with Picture b.



- A few pairs come to the front of the class to listen to and repeat the sentences in the recording.

- Pupils look at the question and the answer and listen to the teacher’s explanation.

- Context a: A tourist asking for help from Linh and her mother at a street corner

Tourist: Excuse me! I’m lost.
Linh’s mother: Where do you want to go?

Tourist: I want to go to Hoan Kiem Lake.

Linh’s mother: Well, it’s far from here.

- Context b: Linh’s mother telling the tourist how to get to Hoan Kiem Lake

Tourist: How can I get to Hoan Kiem Lake?

Linh’s mother: You can get there by bus. The bus stop is over there.

Tourist: Thank you so much.

Activity 2. Listen, point and say. (Track 77)

Step 1: Have pupils point at Picture a, listen to the recording and repeat the phrases Hoan Kiem Lake and by bus several times in chorus and individually. Repeat the same procedure with Pictures b, c and d. Have the class repeat the phrases.

Step 2: Point at the question pattern How can I get to ____? Read it aloud and have
pupils repeat it. Follow the same procedure with the answer You can get there by___.

Step 3: Point at Picture a and have pupils listen and repeat after the recording How can I get to Hoan Kiem Lake? - You can get there by bus. Repeat the same procedure with Pictures b, c and d.

Step 4: Divide the class into two groups to take turns repeating the questions and the answers for Pictures a - d until they feel confident.

Step 5: Have pairs of pupils practise asking and answering questions with the pictures. Invite a few pairs to point at the pictures and say the questions and the answers in front of the class. Check their pronunciation, give corrections and feedback where necessary.

- Pupils point at Picture a, listen to the recording and repeat the phrases Hoan Kiem Lake and by bus several times. Pupils follow the teacher’s instructions with Pictures b, c and d. Pupils repeat all the phrases.

- Pupils listen to the question pattern and repeat it. Pupils follow the teacher’s instructions with the answer pattern.

- Pupils point at the pictures and listen and repeat after the recording.

- Pupils work into two groups to take turns repeating the questions and the answers for Pictures a - d.

- Pairs of pupils practise asking and answering questions with the pictures. A few pairs point at the pictures and say the questions and the answers in front of the class.

Activity 3. Let’s talk.

Step 1: Direct pupils’ attention to the pictures and say the places to visit and means of transport. Read the question in the first speech bubble aloud and ask pupils to repeat it. Ask pupils to look at the second bubble and identify what the answer should be. Do the same with the other pair of speech bubbles.

Step 2: Have pairs of pupils practise asking and answering questions about places and means

- Pupils look at the pictures and say the places to visit and means of transport. Pupils listen to the question in the first speech bubble aloud and repeat it. Pupils look at the second bubble and identify what the answer should be.
