Activity 1: Lead-in (3’)

- Ask the questions “What can you remember about Kay’s desert challenge? What rules did she mention? What advice did she give?”

- Elicit some answers and write one or two sentences with must and should on the board, e.g. You must take lots of water with you. You should take a mirror.

- Underline the modal verbs and explain that we use these verbs to give advice.

Activity 2: (7’) Look at these sentences about Kay Freeman’s Desert Challenge on page 72. Write True or False.

- Ask students to read the sentences and decide if they are true or false.

- Check answers with the class and check that students understand the sentences.

- Answers some eliciting questions.

- Listen to the explanation.

- Read the sentences and decide if they are true or false.

- Check answers with the teacher.
